THREE beaches in the Whitby area have scooped awards for being among the best places to visit in the whole country.
The golden sands at Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay and Sandsend have received Quality Coast Awards, a new accolade which recognises the diversity and quality of England’s coastline.
It is the first time beach lovers have been given the opportunity to choose the coastal destination that best suits their needs.
People select whether they intend to go in the water, take their dog, require disabled facilities or parking nearby and the website www.qualitycoast.org then matches them to the most appropriate beach.
Every Quality Coast Award beach has to meet strict criteria including clean sands free of litter and dog fouling, good access with facilities that must be clean and in good working order.
